The essential point, before anything else: joining the waiting list is free, creates no contract, reserves no place and commits you to nothing. It gives you priority access to information when the journey opens for booking. Everything below explains that in more detail.
These terms govern your use of this website and your registration on the waiting list for The Lago Heritage Journey. By submitting the form, you confirm that you have read and accepted them.
1. Who you are dealing with
This website is operated by Vita Calabra S.r.l., trading as Vita Calabra Tours, a licensed tour operator with registered office at Piazza Navarro snc, 87014 Laino Borgo (CS), Italy, VAT number 04025980782, holding Tour Operator Licence no. 11439 of 29 September 2016 issued under Regional Law no. 8/2008, art. 17, Regione Calabria, and Third Party Liability Insurance Policy no. 8845610 with Europ Assistance.
The Lago Heritage Journey is promoted in collaboration with Associazione Laghitani nel Mondo, whose president is Giuseppe Cino. The Association is the cultural promoter of the project. Any travel services connected with the journey are supplied by Vita Calabra S.r.l., which alone bears contractual responsibility for them.
2. What the waiting list is — and is not
The waiting list is an expression of interest. In concrete terms:
- Registration is free of charge. We will never ask you for payment to join or to remain on the list.
- Registration does not constitute a booking, a reservation, an option, or a contract of any kind.
- Registration does not guarantee you a place on the journey.
- Registration does not oblige you to book, to pay, or to travel.
- What it does give you is priority: waiting list members receive the finalised itinerary, dates and prices before any public announcement, and are invited to book first.
No consumer right of withdrawal arises from registration, for the simple reason that no contract is formed and no money changes hands. Your rights as a consumer will apply in full to any travel contract you may later choose to enter into.
3. Provisional information
Everything published on this website about The Lago Heritage Journey is indicative and subject to change. This includes the duration of eight days and seven nights, the maximum group size of fifteen participants, the departure windows across 2027 and 2028, and the experiences described.
No price has been published, because none has been set. Any figure you may hear elsewhere is not ours.
The journey will proceed only if a viable group is formed. We reserve the right to modify the programme, to change the dates, or not to operate the journey at all. Should we decide not to proceed, we will tell everyone on the waiting list directly and explain why. Since no payment has been taken, no refund arises.
4. Genealogical research: what we can and cannot promise
This is the part we ask you to read most carefully, because it concerns the hope that brings most people here.
We will conduct genealogical research in good faith and with professional care, working with municipal archives, parish registers and local knowledge in Lago. We do this well, and we have done it before.
But we cannot guarantee outcomes. Records from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries are incomplete. Registers have been lost to fire, flood, war and simple neglect. Surnames were spelled differently by different hands, and changed again on arrival in America. Some families cannot be traced, and some traces lead nowhere.
We promise you a serious search. We cannot promise you an ancestor, a house, or a living relative. Anyone who promises otherwise is not being honest with you.
Where archives are held by third parties — municipalities, parishes, diocesan offices — access depends on their authorisation and opening hours, over which we have no control.
5. Accuracy of the information you give us
You agree that the information you submit is accurate to the best of your knowledge, and that you are entitled to provide it. Where you submit details concerning other people — family members intending to travel with you, or ancestors — you confirm that you have the authority to do so.
Approximations are entirely welcome. "Around 1910" is more useful to us than a blank field, and nobody will be penalised for an imperfect memory.
You agree not to submit false, offensive or unlawful content, and not to use the form for any purpose other than genuine registration.
6. Leaving the waiting list
You may remove yourself at any moment, without giving a reason, by writing to info@vitacalabra.com or by using the unsubscribe link in any email we send. We will delete your registration promptly and confirm that we have done so.
7. Selection and limited places
The journey is limited to a maximum of fifteen participants, in order to preserve the intimacy and the quality of access that make it what it is. If demand exceeds capacity, we will allocate places in a manner that is transparent and fair, taking into account the order of registration and the practical composition of the group.
Where a season proves oversubscribed, we may open an additional departure rather than turn people away. Registering does not create a right to a place in any particular departure.
8. If and when you book
Any future booking will be governed by a separate travel contract, provided to you in writing before you commit anything. That contract will set out the price, what is included and excluded, the payment schedule, cancellation terms, insurance requirements and the protections due to you under Italian and European package travel legislation, in particular Legislative Decree no. 62/2018 implementing Directive (EU) 2015/2302.
Nothing in these terms limits those rights. These terms concern only the waiting list.
9. Intellectual property
The texts, photographs, design and name of The Lago Heritage Journey belong to Vita Calabra S.r.l. and to Associazione Laghitani nel Mondo respectively. You may read, print and share this page for personal use. You may not reproduce its content commercially, or present this journey as your own, without our written permission.
The photographs of Lago and of our travellers are ours. Please do not use them elsewhere without asking — we generally say yes when asked.
10. Website availability
We aim to keep this site available at all times, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Maintenance, technical failures or events beyond our control may cause interruptions. If the form fails at the moment you try to submit it, please write to info@vitacalabra.com and we will add you to the list by hand.
11. Liability
Since the waiting list involves no payment and no contractual service, our liability arising from your registration is limited to what the law does not permit us to exclude. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
We are not liable for decisions you take in anticipation of a journey that has not yet been confirmed. Please do not purchase flights, book leave or make non-refundable arrangements until you hold a confirmed booking from us in writing.
12. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, you retain the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence, and you may bring proceedings before the courts of the place where you are domiciled.
For any other user, the courts of Cosenza, Italy shall have jurisdiction. EU consumers may also use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform, though we would much rather you simply wrote to us first: most things can be resolved in a single email.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the project takes shape. The version in force is the one published on this page, with the date shown at the top. Substantial changes will be communicated to everyone on the waiting list by email.
